Paris , also known as City of Light, “La Ville Lumière”, was the first European city to install street lighting in 1889 and played a leading role at the Age of Enlightenment.
Paris has 6.100 streets, “rues”. The shortest Rue des Degrés, is only 5,75 metres long and the longest, Rue de Vaugirard is 4.3 kilometres long.
Place de la Concorde, the largest square in the capital, is actually a sundial, one of the biggest in the world.
In summer, the banks of river Seine are covered in sand and transformed to Paris Plages, Paris Beaches.
Transportation
Musicians playing in Paris Metro (subway) have to pass an audition to obtain a badge holder, permitting them to perform in any metro station for the next six months.
